Ashwagandha energy bites

These bites are a great go to snack for when you need a pick me up and a lasting bout of energy.

Pre-prepare this armada of energy ammunition so you can have quick access to them when the tank is running low.

They are mostly fat based, providing a plentiful supply of fuel. Fat is an abundant source of energy when the body selects to use it and can provide a great feeling of long lasting fullness. The almonds and coconut are abundant in supportive and energising fats. Lets take a closer look

Coconut

Coconut brings saturated fat to the table as a medium chain fatty acid. Medium chain fatty acids provide fast acting energy as they metabolise through a different pathway to other longer chained saturated fats found in meat and dairy.

Almonds

The almonds pack in abundant polyunsaturated and monounsaturated fat in the form of omegas. Omegas are essential for good energy, especially omega-3s and 6s as they aren’t produced or converted from anything else in the body. Omega – 3s are especially important for mental energy as they constitute the receptors in the brain which receive chemical messages from neurotransmitters. More omega – 3’s means well oiled receptors and clearer chemical messaging, allowing for efficient brain communication.

Raw Honey

Just to sweeten the deal there is a little honey thrown in. Not only does this make the bites taste great, but is also there for some fast acting energy. The sugars in honey are quickly utilised and will provide an instant kick. There is only a little honey in there as to not throw off blood sugar and appetite.

Cacao

A little Cacao for its iron content. Sufficient iron is important for energy in two ways:

1)Increases oxygen carrying capacity of haemoglobin giving more efficient transportation of oxygen throughout the body. When we have more oxygen we can produce energy more efficiently.

2) Iron is an active component in enzymes that produce ATP (adenosine tri-phosphate), the body’s energy currency.

Ashwagandha

Le piece de resistance, the Ashwagandha affects the way the body will use the energy it has taken on board. It affects the hormonal balance of adrenalin and Cortisol, which influence blood sugar levels and fat oxidation (burning). More on Ashwagandha
